1842-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 7-E. Small Date, Small Letters. VF-25 (NGC). Light, even golden-honey color blankets surfaces that reveal faint traces of mint luster as the coin dips into a light. The peripheries are softly defined, but the focal features in the centers are considerably bolder. The 1842-D Small Date, Small Letters is a conditionally challenging half eagle with most survivors well worn and grading no higher than the basal Extremely Fine level.
