1877-S/S Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 4-D, FS-501. S/Horizontal S. MS-63 (PCGS). Lovely deep golden-gray patina with more vivid champagne-apricot and powder blue undertones evident as the surfaces dip into a light. Sharply struck throughout with a pleasing satin finish from the dies. One of the most popular varieties in the challenging Liberty Seated quarter series of 1838 to 1891, the 1877-S/Horizontal S has been eagerly sought by specialists since the 1950s.
