Lot Description
1855 Octagonal 25 Cents. BG-110. Rarity-4+. Liberty Head. MS-64 (PCGS). This lovely Choice example exhibits blushes of pale lilac iridescence on dominant reddish-rose color. A satiny and smartly impressed piece with strong visual appeal. Struck from the latest known state of these dies, BG Die State IV, with a few bold cracks on the reverse and a finely granular texture when observed with the aid of a loupe, the latter feature the result of lightly rusted dies. This is the same die state as the Jay Roe specimen, although this piece is far finer than that coin, which was cataloged as Net MS-60, lightly brushed in our (Bowers and Merena's) September 2003 sale. Provenance: From the Oregon Collection. PCGS Population: 18; with a single MS-65 finer. PCGS# 10379. NGC ID: 2BGV. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
