Lot Description

Undated (1847) Braided Hair Cent. N-1. Rarity-2--Struck 20% Off Center--VF-25 BN (NGC). The strike is off center to 7 o'clock with broad arcs of blank planchet along the upper right obverse, lower right reverse. Handsome medium brown patina overall, the reverse shows some glossy gold and powder blue undertoning when viewed with the aid of direct lighting. Although the date area is off the flan, bold die lines through the letters RTY in LIBERTY and a single vertical die line from the hair curl below Liberty's ear confirm the 1847 Newcomb-1 attribution.
