Lot Description

1905 Liberty Double Eagle. Proof-53 (NGC). Very rare, but about the most affordable proof double eagle likely to be found. Good reflectivity remains, particularly on the reverse. Close inspection reveals squared rims and sharp edge reeds that would only be found on a proof, but this one clearly did some short service in circulation. Warm yellow gold with traces of deeper orange right at the dentils. One of 92 proofs struck.
