Lot Description
1856-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter 39-FF. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC. The elusive 1856-D half eagle was produced to the extent of just 19,786 pieces, and survivors are scarce in lower grades and rare above the Choice EF level. This issue is a noteworthy rarity in Mint State with only 25 to 30 distinct coins extant at that level. A scarce Choice AU survivor, this piece offers vivid deep honey-orange color and plenty of mint luster. Shallow planchet drift marks flanking the eagle on the reverse are as made, the surfaces free of troublesome post-production blemishes. Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection - CAG Set. CAC Population: 4; 4. To view all items From the Fairmont Collection - CAG Set click here. PCGS# 8268. NGC ID: 25UX. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
