- Lot Description
- Frosty olive-gold surfaces with a well executed, overall sharp strike. There are no singularly mentionable marks, an area of deeper color out of the way at the right border. The 1840 is a popular early Liberty Head half eagle for better date type purposes. Even so, it is scarce in an absolute sense and its true rarity in the finer AU grades, like that of so many 1840s Philadelphia Mint half eagles, is overlooked by more casual collectors.
