Lot Description
1839 Gobrecht Silver Dollar. Name Removed. Judd-104 Original, Pollock-116. Rarity-3. Dannreuther Reverse Die State b-c. Proof-45 (PCGS).... Silver. Reeded edge. Die Alignment IV. The eagle flies just south of horizontal in a plain field when the coin is turned on its vertical axis. Deep steel gray with bold iridescent neon blue highlights. No marks of consequence assault the unaided eye, making for a truly nice example of the date. Stars on obverse as in the style adopted for the 1840-1873 Liberty Seated dollars. One of 300 pieces struck for intended circulation and one of just 19 graded by PCGS, though it is certainly possible, if not probable, that some of the 19 records are in fact resubmissions of the same piece. Our last offering of this piece included a video description by David Hall who commented to effect that, ""you will like the look of this coin."" Choice for the grade in our eyes, as well as in the eyes of CAC.
