1799/8 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. B-1, BB-142. Rarity-4. BB Die State III. 13-Star Reverse. AU-50 (PCGS). CAC. Light gray with residual luster in the protected areas of the obverse and reverse. One of the scarce overdate issues, and seldom seen this attractive. There are no detracting marks and Liberty's hair retains bold separation on her long strands as well as the eagle's wing feathers. Later die state with meandering cracks present as well as a complex die failure through and around the I of AMERICA where a portion of the die really fell apart, causing an irregular raised area on the coins struck.
