Lot Description
1893 Isabella Quarter. MS-67 (NGC). Wonderfully original surfaces exhibit intermingled highlights of powder blue and pale apricot to dominant golden-copper patina. The surfaces are frosty, smooth and exhibit sharp striking detail from the rims to the centers. This design type by Charles E. Barber, the first -- and until the 1776-1976 Washington quarter, the only -- commemorative quarter dollar, was made at the behest of the Board of Lady Managers of the World's Columbian Exposition, of which Susan B. Anthony was a member. The coin was authorized March 3, 1893, and production began almost immediately afterward. As current certified population data shows, the number of survivors thins dramatically at and above the MS-67 grade level. This is a virtually pristine and highly appealing coin that is worthy of the strongest bids. Provenance: From the Fort Lee Collection. NGC Census: 55; 9 finer in this category (MS-68+ * finest). PCGS# 9220. NGC ID: BYJ9. Click here for certification details from NGC.
