Lot Description

Though the Whitman colonial coin <em>Encyclopedia</em> suggests that the vast majority of Newman 4-E specimens are restrikes, PCGS has attributed this particular specimen as an original, hence their assignment of coin #49. Both sides are toned in medium pewter gray, the surfaces original, yet macrogranular, as often seen for the type. There is a single tin pest spot, on the reverse below the letters AN in HISPAN, which is more than offset by traces of flashy bright silver luster within the protected areas around many of the design elements. A nice example for type purposes.
