Lot Description

This is an important example of this conditionally rare Dahlonega mint quarter eagle. While 19,303 were originally struck, these went right into circulation, and while there are a small number known in Mint State, these are VERY RARE. The presently offered example ranks among the top half dozen examples graded by NGC. The surfaces are "crusty" and original with a hint of flashy near-Prooflike reflective luster underneath the toning. Sharply impressed devices show full definition on both sides, crisply rendered from a blow from a broken reverse die. The eye appeal is incredible for this issue. PCGS 3, NGC 3. There has not been an NGC-graded MS62 sold since September 2011! The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $22,500. Th ere are just three coins graded higher, none of which have sold in nearly a generation! It should also be noted that nothing finer than MS61 has sold in a PCGS holder since 2004! Good luck. Cert.
