Lot Description
Breen Die State I. A beautiful coin for the specialist which boasts traces of mint color near many of the design elements, most noticeably the letters in the words STATES OF in the legend. Identifiable by a few microscopic nicks, many concentrated below the ribbon ends in the left obverse field, but one tiny pin prick is seen right of Liberty's lovelock, and a minor speck is located near the obverse border at 3 o'clock. The strike is reasonably sharp on the obverse, with minor softness noted on the leaves in the wreath on the reverse. A thoroughly PQ and well-known Draped Bust cent that is tied for CC#2 for the Sheldon-224 dies in the Bland census with an EAC grade of AU50, while Noyes has it ranked as tied for CC#3. Unique Gold CAC stickering for an 1801 Draped Bust cent and a numismatic provenance to 1895 will result in spirited bidding and a strong premium.
