Lot Description
Lot 252 1835 N-11 R4+ Head of 1834 PCGS graded XF40.Glossy dark olive brown and chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and the only marks are a few microscopic ticks between the chin and star 1 and a tiny tick over the N in CENT. Very rare M-LDS with a bold retained cud break from the U in UNITED to the rim under the wreath ribbon (in the latest die state this becomes a full cud break). This is the Wright plate coin for the die variety and it is the finest example of this die state known to us. The next finest in the Noyes census grades F12 and it resides in the ANS Museum. Graded VF30 net VF25 and tied for CC#10 honors overall for the variety but finest of the die state, his photo #25693. A great cent that comes with a very nice provenance. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #37093. Pop 3; 5 graded higher at PCGS for the variety, 2 in MSBN, 3 in MSRB. Estimated Value $2,250 - UP Ex Howard R. Newcomb, J. C. Morgenthau 5/16/1945:667-Floyd T. Starr, Stack's 12/6/1984:1728-Wesley A. Rasmussen-Dennis Mendelson 7/16/1998-Jack Wadlington (The Twin Leaf Collection), Stack's Bowers 7/16/2015:2260-Chuck Hall Collection (includes the Rasmussen and Mendelson collection envelopes, the Wadlington collection notes, and the last lot ticket).
