Lot Description
1879 Pattern Washlady Dime. Judd-1585, Pollock-1778. Rarity-6+. Proof-64 RD (PCGS). Charles Edward Barber's Washlady design with a head of Liberty facing left on the obverse. Liberty wears a headband inscribed LIBERTY and ornamented with ears of wheat, cotton leaves and bolls. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border and the date 1879 is below. On the reverse we see the denomination ONE DIME within a beaded circle, outside of which is a wreath of wheat and cotton. The Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed within an ornamental cartouche above. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.<br />     Fiery pinkish-rose surfaces also possess full striking detail and a vibrant mint finish that further enhance already impressive eye appeal. A probable Gem were it not for a few extremely trivial carbon flecks on the obverse. One of the most beautiful and endearing pattern Dimes, Judd-1585 is also an important rarity with probably only 12-15 specimens extant.
