- Writing in his celebrated Morgan & Peace Dollar Textbook, Wayne Miller sums up the desirability of this issue for high grade type purposes when he observes:
The 1879-S is among the most common of all the "S" mint dollars in prooflike condition. The majority of prooflike specimens are cameos, and sometimes available with impressive contrast between field and devices. Although easily obtainable, they are popular as a type coin because of their beauty.
This is just such a coin, and its untoned surfaces are also expertly preserved to uphold the coveted Superb Gem grade from PCGS. Lovely!
