Description du lot: FROM THE BIG CYPRESS COLLECTION The 1878-CC Trade dollar is a major key date rarity, the final circulation striking of this denomination. Only 97,000 were originally struck and in July over 44,000 examples that had remained undistributed in the mint's vaults were melted down. It is a rarity in all grades, and its status as a key date in all grades has made this a popular date for collectors. Light dove-gray and pearly-gold patina are seen on the surfaces on both the obverse and reverse. There is a trace of light friction on the highest points, but it is so minor that if raw, we think some sellers would call it Mint State. There are no serious marks of any kind to distract the eye and the visual allure is quite nice overall. PCGS 14, NGC 12. The last example sold in February 2021 for $9,900 and the current Collectors Universe value is listed at $12,500. VERY RARE finer, with just about three dozen graded higher by PCGS.
