1808/7 Capped Bust Left Half Eagle. Miller-104, HBCC-3113, BD-2. Rarity-4+. AU-53 (PCGS). BD-2 is the more readily obtainable of the two known overdate die marriages of the 1808 half eagle, but it is still scarce in an absolute sense with only about 80-100 coins extant in all grades. We offer here a vividly toned Choice AU, the peripheries splashed with bright-rose and powder-blue colors that give way to olive-orange patina toward the centers. Free of all but wispy, singularly distracting handling marks, with ample sharpness of detail remaining to both sides. The toning alone provides superior eye appeal even at the uppermost reaches of the circulated grading scale.
