Lot Description
1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 30-hh.1, W-3175. Rarity-2. Draped Bust Left, ETLIR. AU-50 (PCGS). 136.7 grains. Honest-to-goodness luster persists, particularly on the reverse, amidst medium brown surfaces and steel devices. Some very thin and shallow parallel planchet striations are seen, no bad marks, very little actual wear. Struck to 3 o'clock on the obverse and reverse, legends and date complete. Edge crude at 10:30 on the obverse, with a natural knob, as made. Very similar to the AU Boyd-Ford coin, maybe a little sharper struck in the face. That piece brought $6,900. There are a few other AU examples, including the Perkins coin. PCGS# 391. Provenance: From the John "Jack" Royse Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) sale of May 1969, lot 19; "Consignment Harrison." Lot tag included.
