- This is a remarkable example with extraordinarily sharp design features and virtually pristine surfaces. The obverse features satiny luster beneath attractive heather and golden-brown toning, with iridescent lilac and blue engaging the periphery. The reverse has two distinct areas of toning, a triangular area above the eagle with ivory tinting, the area below with slightly warmer sandy-silver iridescence. Although not a rare die pairing in an absolute sense, the present example ranks CC#1 for the 1826 O-113a die state in the Autumn 2024 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's Auction & Mail Bid Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars: 1794-1839. Truly a memorable Gem.
