- Glossy and gently prooflike with traces of lingering faded red tight against some of the devices, especially on the reverse. A few trivial marks, but excellent eye appeal with deep chocolate brown patina that blends with nuances of lighter olive in the fields. A restrike of a much earlier issue that speaks to the Civil War era desirability of Washington portrait medals, and the willingness of medallists to feed the trade.
