Lot Description
1863 Pattern Two-Cent Piece. Judd-312, Pollock-377. Rarity-4. Bronze. Plain Edge. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). Obv:Similar to the design that the Mint adopted for regular issue two-cent coinage in 1864, although the motto on the scroll reads GOD OUR TRUST instead of IN GOD WE TRUST. Rev:Also similar to the adopted type of the following year, but the word CENTS is markedly curved and the detail to the wreath is slightly different. Charming frosty to semi-reflective surfaces exhibit a lovely blend of steely-olive, reddish-apricot and rose-brown colors. Razor sharp in strike, this is a desirable example of the type that would do equally well in a dedicated pattern collection or an advanced set of two-cent pieces. Provenance: From the Jerome S. Reznick Collection. PCGS# 60467. NGC ID: 29ER. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
