- Lot Description
- Possessing an incredible strike and exceptional eye appeal, unlike the majority of 1919-S quarters. A lower mintage date that was not well produced. Most known have a flat strike and are lack luster. The presently offered example is on the other side of the spectrum, fully struck on the shield and with crisp detail on Liberty's head, a bold luster rolls on both sides. The obverse shows a light overtone of clear gold, while the reverse is untoned. Very high end surfaces look to be of a higher grade, it is only under close inspection that a couple of microscopic bag marks are seen. The eye appeal is totally unmarred by any distracting spots or unsightly toning splotches. PCGS 27, NGC 19, CAC 6. There have been three PCGS/CAC examples sold in auction. The most recent was in April 2016 for $14,688; before that one sold in June 2015 for $24,675, and the first one brought $13,225 in November 2012. The current PCGS Price Guide listing is at $17,500 and keep in mind that it is VERY RARE any finer, with the value more than doubling in MS65 FH! An impressive near-GEM for any advanced collector with a lot of visual allure! Cert. Number 34514079 PCGS # 5733
