Lot Description
THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION, PART V This is a very flashy example of this early date. A glossy, somewhat reflective luster graces both sides. The date is clearly repunched with the bases of 84 clearly doubled (if not tripled). Struck from an interesting state of the dies, both sides show dramatic die cracks and cuds have begun to form on the reverse rim. Clearly someone at the mint attempted to improve the die, by polishing it, as you can see die polish lines mix with planchet roller marks. Virtually untoned and with just some minor ticks here and there, this coin has an eye appeal that would please most collectors. PCGS 18, NGC 8. The current Collectors Universe value is $2,000 and the most recent sold in November 2021 for $1,593. RARE finer at NGC, just 14 coins have been graded higher. Cert. Number 5703746001 PCGS # 6239
