- <strong>Obv:</strong> The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and the date 1884 below a hand-cut perforation. <strong>Rev:</strong> The denomination ONE CENT above and an inverted shield flanked by two laurel sprigs below the perforation. This example of Eastman Johnson's "holey" cent design is reasonably spot-free and handsome, and identifiable by a minor planchet flake (as made) on the letter C in CENT.
