Description du lot
1936-D Buffalo Nickel. FS-901 (FS-019). 3 1/2-Legged. EF-40 (NGC). A very original piece, both sides exhibit warm olive-gray outlines to the devices. The surfaces are otherwise silver-gray in sheen, and they are uncommonly smooth for a Buffalo Nickel that acquired 20 points of wear. A bold-looking EF that is worthy of a solid bid. This error as created in the same manner as the 1937-D 3-Legged Nickel, namely drastic die polishing that (partially) effaced one of the bison's forelegs. Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton (<em>Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties of United States Coins, Fifth Edition, Volume I</em>) assert that, ""This is an extremely rare variety with fewer than 40 known in any grade.""
