- Lot Description
- 1908 Indian Quarter Eagle. Proof-63 (NGC). A lovely example of this rare issue, one of just 197 struck and probably one of far fewer than this number to actually have survived without impairment. A finely granular surface, the very nature of the matte proof, uniform and glistening under magnification. A strong wire rim extends most of the way around the circumference of each side. A few tiny surface marks are noted, but none worthy of specific mention. A the left obverse, a pre-striking planchet flaw is noted, but it is as made. Matte proof coins of any issue are very rare, very unusual in appearance, and clearly very special.
