Lot Description
Smartly impressed with bountiful mint luster and deep, original, honey-apricot color. Though the 1903-O is the most plentiful New Orleans Mint eagle, the issue is scarce when compared to common Philadelphia and San Francisco Liberty Head issues from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Additionally, most survivors are repatriations from the second half of the 20th century, so when Mr. Stack acquired this coin in 1947 it was a notable numismatic rarity. Even today finer pieces are difficult to attain, and our offering of this lovely PCGS MS-63 represents a fleeting opportunity for astute collectors of Liberty Head and/or New Orleans Mint gold.<p>As numismatic scholars know all too well, our (Stack's) October 1947 "H.R. Lee" Collection sale was comprised largely of duplicates from the legendary Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection.
