- 1870 Pattern Liberty Eagle. Judd-1035, Pollock-1170. Rarity-8. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). 1870 Pattern Dollar. Judd-1002, Pollock-1134. Rarity-6-. Proof-65 (NGC). Regular die trials striking of the 1870 Liberty eagle. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.<br /> With a mere four or five specimens believed extant, this rare type represents a fleeting buying opportunity for the advanced pattern or Liberty eagle collector. Fully defined from a razor sharp strike, both sides are bathed in rich orange-copper patina. Smooth as far as distracting handling marks are concerned, with a few faint carbon flecks and slight muting to the surfaces being the only stumbling blocks on the road to a full Gem rating.
