- Lot Description
- 1857 Seated Liberty Dime. Proof-63 (PCGS). Mostly brilliant silver with faint accents of rose toning. Nice reflectivity in the fields that contrasts somewhat with the frosty devices. Walter Breen identified eight different examples in his Encyclopedia of United States and Colonial Proof Coins, and it is likely that a few more exist. However, proof production was a bit irregular prior to 1858 and the true number struck is not known. That said, the PCGS website has published an estimate of 30-50 known proofs.
