- 1878 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Proof-64 (PCGS).
Slight mottling to olive-gray patina, the surfaces also reveal iridescent champagne-pink, pale gold and powder blue undertones as the coin dips into a light. A fully struck, attractively original specimen that is not all that far removed from CAC approval. With a generous mintage of 800 pieces and a good rate of survival, the 1878 is not a major rarity among Proof Liberty Seated half dollars. As with all issues of this type, however, it is a conditionally challenging date with few survivors as solidly Choice as the offered coin.
Provenance: From the Abigail Collection, Part II.
PCGS# 6439. NGC ID: 27UD.
