Lot Description
Only the Denver Mint struck Lincoln cents in 1922. A number of dies became filled with dirt and grease, filling in the D mint mark and obscuring other portions of the design (on some dies, the reverse was partially filled and have weak definition). The real No D has the strong reverse details. These are very scarce in all grades, VERY RARE in any Mint State grade, and is considered a formidable KEY date in the series. This is a very pleasing AU58 with rich auburn toning and hints of soft powder blue clings to the periphery. Both sides show just the most delicate touch of friction on the highest points. The eye appeal is very nice. PCGS 63, NGC 27, CAC 15. The last two PCGS/CAC examples sold in 2019, one for $9,600 in March and the other for $7,800 in October. The current CAC CPG value is $9,750 and the PCGS Price Guide value is $10,000. This near-Mint example belongs in a neat collection of KEY Lincoln cents. Cert. Number 25292445 PCGS # 3285
