Lot Description
Lot 357 1853 N-13 R1 Repunched 1 PCGS graded MS64 RED, CAC Approved.Lustrous bright original mint red just starting to mellow to light steel brown on the highpoints with 80% of the mint color remaining. The only notable marks are a spot of slightly darker toning (not carbon) in the center of the cheek and a microscopic speck of carbon at a dentil tip under the 5. Neither mark is at all significant and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. M-LDS, die state b. The earlier points from the E in CENT are gone and the fields are flowlined, but the repunching on the base of the 1 remains clear. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#9 in the Grellman census but one of the "reddest" examples seen of the variety. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; none finer. Estimated Value $1,250 - UP Ex W. J. Edwards 12/10/2005-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection.
