Noyes Die State C/E. This is an important offering for specialists in middle date cents. Trailing just the Proof-only N-7, Newcomb-5 is the rarest die marriage of the 1834 Matron Head cent issue, and it is also the only one that corresponds to the Large 8 and Stars, Medium Letters <em>Guide Book</em> variety. While examples understandably enjoy strong demand throughout the numismatic grading scale, the significance of this premium PCGS/CAC Choice AU coin can hardly be overstated. It is a handsome piece toned in blended medium brown and olive-copper, the surfaces glossy and remarkably smooth overall. The lower reverse is softly struck, upper obverse a bit less so, but otherwise we note bold to sharp detail. Sitting just outside of Condition Census for these dies, this is one of the 10 finest 1834 N-5 cents available to today's advanced collectors.
