- 1893 Liberty Half Eagle. Proof-61 Cameo (NGC). As with all classic proof U.S. gold coins, the 1893 Half Eagle is a rare issue in all grades. The original mintage is just 77 pieces, and a scant 25-35 coins are believed extant in all grades (per Garrett and Guth, 2008). The specimen we offer here is fully struck with satiny devices and well-mirrored fields. Handsome rose-gold color throughout, the surfaces a bit scuffy with scattered contact marks precluding a higher grade.
