Rarely will advanced collectors have the opportunity to bid on a Prooflike example of this first year Morgan dollar hub variety in the upper echelons of Gem Mint State preservation. This is just such a coin -a phenomenal strike and condition that combines boldly reflective fields with a virtually pristine appearance overall. Sharply struck with most strands of hair over Liberty's ear and feathers on the eagle's breast crisp, this is an unimprovable coin in a PCGS-certified Prooflike Mint State 8 Tailfeathers Morgan dollar.<p>As noted by Wayne Miller in his celebrated <em>Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook</em>k:<p><em>The 1878 8-tail feather dollar is readily available with cameo prooflike obverse or reverse. However, it is difficult to find a specimen which is fully prooflike on both sides. Such specimens are usually brilliant rather than cameo prooflikes, with little contrast between field and devices.</em><p>The author would certainly have been impressed with the example offered here, a two-sided PL with appreciable contrast between watery fields and frosty motifs. It is worthy of inclusion in the finest set of Prooflike Morgan dollars.
