Lot Description: 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 56-n, W-5310. Rarity-1. Camel Head. AU-55 (PCGS). A beautiful example of this perennially popular type variety in the New Jersey copper series. Warmly toned in autumn-brown, both sides are exceptionally smooth with no troublesome blemishes and plenty of good gloss. Minor planchet clip at 7 o'clock relative to the obverse, that side off center to the same clock position with the lower border through the bottom of the date. Otherwise, however, we note bold to sharp definition throughout the design. Although all examples of Maris 56-n are thought to be overstruck, this piece shows no evidence of an undertype.
