Lot Description

1794 Liberty Cap Cent. S-55. Rarity-2. Head of 1794. EF-45 BN (NGC). Pleasingly toned in a blend of deep golden-copper and autumn-brown, this inviting piece also sports sharp to full detail to virtually all design elements. The surfaces are microscopically rough with a few minor planchet pits along the lower and left obverse borders, although there are no sizeable marks on either side. Sheldon-55 is a readily obtainable die marriage of the 1794 Liberty Cap cent in an absolute sense, but the variety is conditionally challenging with the top 12 examples in the 2006 Noyes census ranging in EAC grade from AU-50 to VF-30.
