- A brilliant, frosty Gem on the cusp of a fully Superb Gem grade. Untoned silver surfaces glow with mint luster when rotated in a light. The strike detail is impressively sharp throughout, especially in an example of a New Orleans Mint issue. While the mintage exceeded 12 million pieces, the vast majority went into circulation in the Deep South and/or were stored in Treasury vaults until 1918, when the Pittman Act ordered the mass melting of silver dollars in government storage. In any event, the end result is a conditionally challenging issue in the 1888-O for the discerning Morgan dollar collector, especially one who demands CAC approval.
