1869 Pattern Five-Cent Piece. Judd-684, Pollock-763. Rarity-5. Nickel. Plain Edge. Proof-64 Cameo (PCGS). Obv: nearly the exact design type as the circulating nickel three-cent pieces of the date but on a larger scale. Rev: Roman numeral V at center of laurel wreath, bow at the bottom, ornate scroll with cross above and IN GOD WE TRUST upon the scroll. The frosted silver-gray motifs and mirrored fields form a bold and pleasing cameo contrast. According to the <em>uspatterns.com </em>website, this type was offered by the Mint in three-piece sets along with the cent and three-cents patterns of the same design type. Choice for the grade.
