- Lovely and scarce Choice Mint State quality for this challenging type. Lightly toned in dominant pearl gray iridescence, both sides exhibit olive highlights to the design elements that are more pronounced on the reverse. Boldly struck with billowy satin luster throughout, this is an exceptionally attractive example for both the type and the assigned grade. The scarcest and most conditionally challenging of the 1883 Kingdom of Hawaii silver issues, the dollar has a mintage of 500,000 pieces, 453,652 examples of which were redeemed. The typically encountered survivor in today's market is circulated to one degree or another, often impaired due to cleaning or other problems. This fully Mint State piece is a significant find for the advanced Hawaiiana collector.
