- 1859 Pattern Half Dollar. Judd-239, Pollock-295. Rarity-4. Silver. Reeded Edge. Proof-65 (NGC). OH.
Obverse: Longacre's French Head of Liberty to right, oak wreath in her hair, LIBERTY on ribbon draped on her shoulder, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around, date below. Reverse: large cereal wreath, 1/2 / DOLLAR within on two lines. Satiny steel-gray surfaces with deeper highlights in the protected areas, and with splashes of vibrant electric-blue that spring to life in a bold light source. A pleasing specimen that is among the half dozen finest grading events for the variety at NGC. NGC Census: 5; 1 finer within any designation (Proof-66).
