1901-S Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-64 PL (PCGS). This is an impressive strike rarity for this Morgan dollar as both sides offer impressive reflectivity in the fields for a 1901-S. Lightly struck over the central high points, yet sharp otherwise. Brilliant surfaces and solid Choice Uncirculated quality add to this coin's appeal. The elusiveness of the 1901-S with this finish was recognized by Wayne Miller when he penned his Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook: "The 1901-S is extremely rare in fully prooflike condition." The advent of third-party certification has confirmed the author's conclusion for, in the 34 years since its founding, PCGS has certified very few examples of this issue in the PL and DMPL categories.
