Description du lot
Elusive Proof 1882 Three-Dollar Gold Piece 1882 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. Proof-65 Cameo (NGC). This is a rare and beautiful Proof three-dollar gold piece that would serve as a highlight in the finest cabinet. Fully impressed with razor sharp definition, the devices are further set apart from the fields with a soft stain texture. The fields are deeply mirrored, the finish markedly contrasted to confirm the coveted Cameo designation from NGC. With vivid golden-yellow patina throughout, this is a smooth and inviting Gem that will please even the most discerning numismatist. The Mint struck only 76 Proof threes for this date, the first 25 examples of which were delivered during February 1882. Survivors are understandably scarce given the paltry number of coins originally produced, Q. David Bowers and Douglas Winter (2005) accounting for just 40 to 50 specimens in numismatic hands. As one of the finest certified examples, this gorgeous Gem Cameo Proof is sure to see spirited bidding at auction. NGC Census: 4; 3 finer in this category (Proof-67 Cameo finest). PCGS# 88046. NGC ID: 28AR. Click here for certification details from NGC.
