Lot Description
1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 23-P, W-4940. Rarity-4. Curved Plow Beam, Narrow Shield, Blundered Six. VF-35 (PCGS). 154.2 grains. Boldly contrasting two-tone tan and dark olive surfaces are smooth, glossy, and attractive. Scattered contact marks are present, but none are serious. The substantial obverse cud near 3 o'clock is present, making this Die State 3. The grade of this piece matches the 2019 EPU coin, which brought $5,280. The SHI Census is led by two AUs (the Hessberg and Craige coins), followed by six EFs. Two of those - number 3 and number 6 - appear to be the same coin, as the Partrick EF is the Spiro-Oechsner coin. The Ford-Martin coin, sold last year as PCGS EF-45, seems like a simple omission from the list. Provenance: From the E Pluribus Unum Collection. PCGS# 767884.
