FROM THE SEATTLE COLLECTION Another RARE Pattern Shield nickel, mating an 1865 dated obverse with the No Rays reverse adopted in 1867, these are believed to have been struck in the 1870s for sale to collectors. Rated as R-6+, with 13-20 believed to exist in all grades. Pale, totally original golden hues are dusted over reflective, nickel silver surfaces. The design elements are boldly struck up with a bold defintiion. It is interesting to not that the reverse die was so heavily polished that several letters are partially effaced at the tops. A very cool and rarely seen Pattern. Housed in an old green tag holder. PCGS 6, NGC 1, CAC 2. This GEM realized $7,050 in October 2014 and the current Collectors Universe value is listed at $7,500. Worthy of a great cabinet of Pattern coinage, or a stunning assemblage of Proof Shield nickels. Cert. Number 4504144 PCGS # 60600.00
