- 1833 Matron Head Cent. N-5. Rarity-1. MS-64 BN (PCGS). CAC.
Pleasing steely brown color with olive-gold highlights. The abundant cartwheel lustre on both sides is surrounded by warm traces of mint red color inside the rims. A decent strike for the variety with full centers to all stars on the right side of the obverse. The fields are nearly immaculate, save for a tiny nick over E of CENT. Peripheral cracks and light flowlining suggests a progression to Noyes Die State C/B (late). A very attractive example that we last handled 15 years ago in August 2004.
Provenance: From the Paradise Collection. Earlier ex John MacDonald and Denis Loring; Chris Victor-McCawley, October 2000; our (American Numismatic Rarities) sale of the Jeff Gresser Collection, August 2004, lot 79.
PCGS Population: 34; 16 finer.
