Lot Description
1870 Pattern Quarter. Judd-882, Pollock-980. Rarity-7+. Proof-66 Cameo (NGC). Liberty is seated left on the obverse, her left hand holding an olive branch and her right hand supporting a shield. A ribbon inscribed LIBERTY is draped across the shield while a free-standing liberty pole is evident behind the portrait. Thirteen stars encircle the periphery with the date 1870 below. The reverse is the same design that the Mint used to produce regular issue 1870 Seated Liberty Quarters. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.<br />     Finest certified of approximately 12 specimens known to exist, this Judd-882 pattern Quarter is an impressive rarity from both absolute and condition standpoints. Otherwise brilliant, both sides exhibit delicate champagne-rose iridescence in isolated areas at the rims. There are no detracting blemishes, and the surfaces are boldly contrasted between satiny devices and deeply mirrored fields. A lovely specimen.
