Lot Description
1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 16.1-D, W-4595. Rarity-3. Draped Bust. VF-25 (PCGS). 124.9 grains. Attractive deep olive brown surfaces are uniform save for some tiny black flecks mostly concentrated just left of the portrait. A few abrasions on Liberty. Microporous, yet still glossy and quite pleasing. One tiny natural flaw is noted on the rim, but otherwise the surfaces are free of such distractions. Centered a little to the right on the obverse, but all design features are free of the rim. The reverse is well centered, with the legends and date complete. Several die breaks are noted on this side, this die being in an advanced state of failure, though these cracks became more developed before the die was taken out of use. Provenance: From the Twin Leaf Collection of Connecticut & Massachusetts Coppers. Earlier ex Tom Reynolds’ December 2000 Fixed Price List. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
