Lot Description

1853 Liberty Head Eagle. MS-62 (NGC). Ex: S.S. Republic. Handsome yellow-gold surfaces are attractively original with a full endowment of mint luster. Boldly to sharply struck throughout, the surfaces are pleasingly smooth in hand for the assigned grade. A couple of minor carbon flecks are seen on the reverse. This outstanding Mint State example is a recent discovery that was found as part of a large group of classic U.S. Mint gold coins during the recovery of the S.S. Republic shipwreck..
